If you’ve ever wondered where to start in Open G tuning, check out this short lesson on Big Joe Williams. He recorded with Sonny Boy Williamson #1 (John Lee Williamson) and wrote the original blues classic “Baby Please Don’t Go”. His records on Delmark and many other labels are classics. Big Joe had a 9 string self-customized guitar with a unique sound– I have this cool Hy-Lo Japanese 12 string and I removed the doubling strings for the low E, A and G strings. Now all I need is a monkey on a stick! If you ever get a chance, Michael Bloomfield’s book “Me and Big Joe” does a great job of portraying Big Joe’s personality.

I’ll be doing a free blues lesson once a week; if you enjoy these lessons, please share, comment and subscribe to my youtube channel. These lessons will always be free, but donations will be gratefully accepted via paypal at rjohnnyband@gmail.com. Individual face to face lessons can really push your playing forward; PM me for private skype/zoom lessons at rjohnnyband@gmail.com and check out my site at www.johnnyburgin.com and twitter at @burginjohnny. Thanks!
