Hey everyone! Here’s the next episode of Brewster’s Millions Of Rants with ‘Billy Gibbons Slide Guitar Secrets.’ As I mentioned in the video, I created a Slide Guitar Primer episode earlier this year in January, and since that time I’ve had a number of requests to feature more slide-related material.
I’m also happy to report that the Late Night Lessons channel is rapidly approaching 100k subscriptions, so to help celebrate, I figured it would be more than appropriate to create another Billy Gibbons-related lesson, as three of the top ten videos on my channel are related to Billy Gibbons and ZZ Top’s music – so let’s dive in!
This episode features a deep dive into some of Billy’s expressive slide guitar playing, which can be found on just about every ZZ Top album – especially the early stuff. The music I’ve selected here was pulled from two classic ZZ Top albums from the glory days in the 1970s, including various tracks from both Rio Grande Mud and Tres Hombres.
The licks/ideas shared here include sections from songs such as Just Got Paid, Precious And Grace, Whiskey N’ Mama, and Apologies To Pearly – to name a few. Not to mention a series of slide exercises based on the ideas you’re learning, which will really help drive these licks home and give you additional practice with some of the ideas at play in this episode.
Needless to say, if you’re a Billy Gibbons/ZZ Top fan, a fan of blues rock guitar playing, a player searching for some more insight into the elusive world of slide guitar playing, or maybe you’re just curious what all the fuss is about – this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons – THANK YOU!
