Now that we know how to comp over the “The Thrill is Gone” by B.B. King, it’s time to get some inspiration for your soloing. Since B.B. King was a big influence on the tune, he’s going to be a point of reference for our soloing. In his solos, B.B. King would connect his guitar to the lyrics of the tune, playing with a call and response feeling, as if it was a conversation between two people. In this video, Berklee Online course author Michael Williams shows different ways to perform call-and-response soloing, be it the intention of the motifs, the pitch of the motif (the low pitched notes could be “talking” with the high pitched notes), different speeds … the sky is really the limit when it comes to these types of “conversations.” Now it’s time for you to explore and take part in the conversation. This video comes from “Blues Guitar,” a Berklee Online course written by Michael Williams.
