Part 2: 7th Chords & The 12 Bar. In unit 2 we dive into the theory that makes up our blues base, the dominant 7th chords and the 12 bar format. For the dominant 7th chords we tackle the theory behind the shapes and then how to play them in 5 positions of the neck. We then put this into practice whilst learning the 12 bar structure, with an awesome upbeat, chicago blues shuffle!

Essential Blues Guitar Lessons [12 of 27] Electric Blues For Intermediates

Now we can play this 12 bar blues in A, we can work out how to change this into any key! It’s a simple process, and for now we will use only the E string (later in the course we will advance this as well). The basic idea is that you simply need to find your starting root note, and then you just copy and paste! We know that the 4 chord is always one string down, directly underneath the root chord, and the 5 chord is one string down and two frets across. We can therefore develop this pattern so that, no matter what key you are faced with, you can find the 12 bar! Dan visually walks you through this in the video, so be sure to watch it a few times before moving to the next unit. Good luck!
