When a beginner ventures into Open G for the first time, they usually stick to the open strings, 5th fret and 7th fret. For good reason too. You can barre across all six strings at those frets and you’ll have some very important chords: The 1 chord (open) the 4 chord (5th fret) and the 5 chord (7th fret).

But as you advance a little, you’ll want to start using other tones.

In this lesson, we’ll not only cover a flashy lick that you’ve gotta know, but we’ll cover a 12 bar blues in Open G that uses the all-important flat 7th interval on the 4 and 5 chords. This one small move helps this piece sound bluesy….gritty even.

Have a go at this one and good luck!

Play on!

John
