It’s probably not much of a secret nowadays that Keith played with five strings tuned to Open G. But, I have a lot of international subscribers that may not know this trick. I show you the basics with the G tuning and the rest is up to you. It is best to listen to the song at a slower speed to pick up on the nuances of rhythm and note variations that Keith does between the first and second verses. On the album Keith’s guitar is tuned to a sharp open G. It is best to tune your guitar to the song so it is easier to hear. On my Stroboflip tuner, I can raise the cents until I get the G matched to the G of my now sharp guitar. Then I can use the tuner to tune the rest of the strings. Sweetened tunings are great for guitar. The Stroboflip (not made anymore but there are newer versions) has a sweetened Dobro tuning that I use for open chords. It flattens the 3rd of several open key tunings I use which makes the chord blend together better. Be sure to check out the second part “Honky Tonk Women Lesson Part #2” where I play it a little better with a backing track.

After ten years of doing this and making basically nothing for my effort, I thought I would make a PayPal.Me link just in case anyone would like to contribute to the cause. I think my wife would be impressed if I showed her I could actually make a little money doing this. Any amount would be appreciated and you know I always try to answer all of your comments and take all of your requests. I don’t know of a lot of YouTube channels that do that. Thank you in advance for your kind gift. Just PayPal me at https://paypal.me/Millstap.
