In this slide focused lesson, we’re going to talk about why you should consider learning slide guitar in standard tuning. Open tunings sound cool, I get it.

They do.

But, if you’re just getting started with slide guitar, why over-complicate things? Start with the tuning that you’re (hopefully) familiar with.

In the very beginning, don’t distract yourself with equipment or even tuning choices. What you really need to focus on is getting good clean notes from your slide playing and ignoring all the rest. Many good blues slide players like Mississippi Fred McDowell and others used crude setups and made amazing music.

Keep it simple and just get started.

Those other things can help, but if you’re just starting out, put them on a shelf as concepts to explore later. First, get going!

Play On!
