Here is a blues guitar lesson by an artist not all of you will be familiar with, Going to move to Alabama by the great Charley Patton. It involves using the long A position high up the neck. I have said it before and will say it again, being able to master some of these positions, in this case the long A goes a long way to helping you become a proficient, authentic, blues player. Many of his songs are not particularly easy to play, which is why I have chosen this one. As this is not too difficult to play, once you have the basics down, concentrate on feel.

To be good at improvisation, we need to be able to be able to play various things in as many positions as possible.

One of your aims should be, to begin learning the notes all over the fretboard. This along with all the other things mentioned in the video, will help grow your musical vocabulary.
