“Pan Am Highway Blues” is from ZZ Top’s fifth studio album, Tejas, released in 1976. Probably my favourite album by Texas’ finest. There are no professionally recorded live versions of this fine tune, that I can find, but there are bootlegs from the World Wide Texas Tour of 1976-77 which include it – there is an audience recording here: https://youtu.be/SWVlWdKogEU

The Rev. Billy G doesn’t play the studio solo on the live version, mainly I guess, because it sounds like there are likely 3 lead guitars on the studio version.

I love this song and this is just the way I play it, I make no claims that is is 100% correct.

The guitar is a Gibson “Pete Townshend” Goldtop. A very nice guitar.

Recorded direct from a NUX MG-300. No proper amplification was harmed in the making of this recording.

I’d be happy to do a full lesson if anyone is interested in the parts I’m playing on this cover.

Thanks as ever for watching.
