Hey everyone, today I want to share with you how I’ve been experimenting with my acoustic guitar setup. I’ve been running my acoustic through a Magnatone amp, which has an awesome tremolo and reverb – two of my favorite effects. I’ll show you how this setup works with a simple blues shuffle.
The shuffle I’m demonstrating uses just the E and A strings. It’s a basic pattern using your second finger on the second fret of the A string and your third finger on the fourth fret. Without the tremolo, it sounds great on its own, but when you add that tremolo effect, it gets this really cool, swampy vibe.
I love using this amp setup as a subtle underpinning to my acoustic sound. It’s important to keep the amp volume low – I’ve got mine at about half. I also show you how to incorporate some simple bends and additional licks to spice up your playing.
Next, I demonstrate how to use a looper pedal with this setup. I record a simple loop and then play over it, showing you some cool licks you can try. I’m using the seventh and eighth frets on the high strings, and also showing you the classic seventh lick on the lower strings.
The tremolo effect really shines when you’re playing licks with a lot of ringing notes. It adds so much character to your sound – just think about how different “Born on the Bayou” would sound without that tremolo!
To wrap things up, I encourage you all to experiment with running your acoustic through an amp at low volume, adding some tremolo, and maybe even using a looper for practice. It’s a great way to expand your sound and inspire new ideas.
