  1. Just found you and watched this first video. I got my first guitar (and still have it) 30 years ago. In my opinion you didn’t talk too much at all.

My critique would be that you didn’t need to hold the guitar at all. 🙂 I suppose it helps some people to know what the video is all about….

  2. Explaining why, how and when to do the licks or riff is important so we can understand, than just learning the technique. I like how Justin teaches. We learn more when he talks (explaining).

  4. Ha…just starting to learn how to the guitar again in my mid fifties (did it in high school but not very well)… this is a great motivational video! Whoever said you talk too much is full of fluff…keep talking and I’ll keep listening and learning. Justin, you’re an inspiring teacher, not too fast and not too slow…just right!

  6. Another comment directed at those who think Justin ‘talks too much’: If you sat down with YOUR guitar hero, would you want him to sit there in silence and play a little, or would you want him to talk and share his process/thoughts with you? If you said, ‘sit in silence’, you’re probably a talker who never learns jack from anyone.

Justin, your contribution to music instruction is much appreciated. Keep it up, brother!

  7. i was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of blues this is and if anyone would be willing to post a lesson of some sort?

    0:45 – 1:35!

  8. Gotta love this guy. Fantastic clear instructions, very down to earth. Good job Justin!

  9. a lot of people bang on about this guy talking too much but I think that’s invaluable and he gives over a lot of good points which are often just missed if you try to learn guitar just by following tabs and finger placings.

  11. lol. What was it he said? Eric Clapton listening to real blues of great blues players? I know I kinda got turned off too at that point. B.B King is one of the kings. Eric mimicks the greats.

  12. I agree about the licks being like words and playing being like talking, but I disagree with existing licks being like English or any other language.. You see, people will feel your music and wether they heard the licks before or not, so making up licks wouldn’t sound different for someone who didn’t hear many other blues players before. Besides, it’s all about sound, if you sound good then you should keep it, as long as you are happy with what you came up with

  13. No dis-repect to anyone posting about to much talking on Justins part, but I’ve been playing for 52 years and everytime I watch this Kid (Sorry Justin) I learn a lot!!! If you” learn the things Justin is teaching us, you’ll be comfortable playing Steely Dan, Jimi Hendrix, on and on… Way to many Swarmy videos on Youtube showing some crazy fast, complicated lick with the "now I’ll do it slower"… Keep talking Justin there’s a bunch of us hanging on every word!! You’re Brilliant!!

  14. I feel this is a introductory video that explains what you are going to learn in the rest of the playlist. Really useful to know if this is what you are looking for.

    Also… 8:19 =)…
