Part 2: 7th Chords & The 12 Bar. In unit 2 we dive into the theory that makes up our blues base, the dominant 7th chords and the 12 bar format. For the dominant 7th chords we tackle the theory behind the shapes and then how to play them in 5 positions of the neck. We then put this into practice whilst learning the 12 bar structure, with an awesome upbeat, Chicago blues shuffle!

Essential Blues Guitar Lessons [9 of 27] Electric Blues For Intermediates

We’ll now apply all of this new knowledge to the track we will be learning! In this lesson we tackle the main riff that we work into the root chord (the I chord). This is a really cool way to add a bit of spice and flavour to that first A7 chord. We also attatch the A major pentatonic (shape 3) to the chord here. Don’t worry too much about that for now, all will become clear in the next unit.
