Actually, Clapton was the one that said that Robert Johnson was the most influential blues guitarist but most of his stuff wasn´t his but borrowed from other players like Skip James and Son House. Of course since the pop audience and the British public figured Clapton as God the all believed it. Johnson is great. So are many others. BTW – he wasn´t old when he died.
