What kind of "scale" do you use? is it like a pentatonic?

I only use .011s for slide. I prefer the SG to the Les Paul only because of the sound. Les Paul sounds great though.

I really enjoyed this video John. What do you think about .11’s? I plan on putting .11’s with a higher action on a Gibson Sg Standard with higher action for slide. Also, what is your opinion on the Les Paul for slide?

Dude, get yourself a Squier Tele or a Epiphone LP and set that bad boy up for open E (w/ heavy strings… except the 5 &4) You can raise the saddles/bridge and dial in a little neck relief… or you could even shim the nut. (but that really isn’t necessary)

Is possible to start with sliding? Because I ordered Epiphone SG Express WC (almost like Derek’s SG 🙂 – I love him). And I’m totally begginer, I didn’t try guitar before. So is it possible to start with sliding? I hope it is. 🙂
Thanks guys!

Allman used the bridge pickup on most live performances, and in the studio for Layla. I got that info from the liner notes of the deluxe reissue of Eat a Peach

I am just starting to play slide guitar. I would love to sound that good.

Dereck Trucks always uses the neck pickup but Haynes sometimes uses the neck pickup and sometimes he uses both neck/bridge. Playing without a pick always gives a warmth tone!!!

I set up my guitar for only slide playing. Muting unwanted noise is the trick to sounding good on slide, along with some other key elements.
Thanks!

Dude, that just plain RIPPS! You make me want to play slide. I’m gonna do it! Yeah! I just gotta have that sound. I have one question…do you play a guitar with higher string action to avoid "fretting" noises or do you just get really good with the subtle touch? I think I also see you using some very subtle string hushing with both hands. Like your slide hand index to stop that noise that comes from behind the slide? And, more obviously your plucking hand, hushing unplayed strings?

i think his lesson was more about how to control tone, than how to actually play any licks hence the name "lesson about tone"

Looks more like a chance to show off, but maybe I’m insecure. I’m now how to play the guitar, but I’m just starting to grasp the slide guitar (I LOVE IT). I didn’t learn too terribly much from your video, but…I’m high and drunk too so….maybe..that had something to do with it.

5. Do you have any amps like the one in the video with those tubes & all you can sell me?
Thanks!

1. Are you using a mic to record this amp in these videos? If so what kind of mic, and what kind of mic placement?
2. Is this the stock speaker you are using in the amp or did you change it?
3. Did you make any adjustments to the amps bias to get a hotter sound or are you just using it as it is from the factory?
4. How much of a difference in tone are those JJ & 5751 tubes making compared to the way it was stock?
