A little slide warm-up that was going nowhere turned into an old favourite.
Slide Guitar Blues in open E tuning using a brass slide on a 1965 Kay Note Parlor Guitar.
Channeling my inner Brian Jones on this blues classic ‘Little Red Rooster’ which is credited to Willie Dixon.
‘Little Red Rooster’ was first recorded in 1961 by Howlin’ Wolf and taken to number one in the UK charts in 1965 by The Rolling Stones, 65′ was the year my old Kay Note guitar was made by Harmony Guitars in Chicago. While these old guitars were entry level ‘catalogue guitars’ their solid construction of maple necks and solid birch wood bodies allied with a ladder brace construction made them classic blues machines, perfect for slide guitar. Birch wood guitars like the Kay and Stella guitars have a natural internal compression, all middle, lots of body and a great sound and feel for the slide player. If you come across one, buy it, you will not regret it, these are wonderful old guitars with an authentic Chicago Blues sound.
