This promo is a collection of clips from "Playing Guitar in Open D" taught by Larry Allen Brown ("Through the trees, a Unicorn" video). Larry is an accomplished guitarist and music instructor who co-developed a unique method for teaching how to play guitar in open tunings based upon color fretboard zones. This course is not intended to teach someone how to play "a song". It is designed to convey an understanding of the guitar tuned to an open chord, to provide intimate familiarity with the fretboard geography, to develop a consistent technique for creating rhythms through patterned finger picking and melodies by incorporating the major scale, to understand the theory behind chord construction and use, and to ultimately enable you to compose your own music using these sound principles. For more information on this course, send email to info@sundolphinproductions.com The full version DVD, titled "Open Tuning for the Guitar with Larry Allen Brown", is available at Amazon.com or at Decent Hill Publishings online estore at decenthill.com The course may also be taken online at www.sundolphin.digitalchalk.com

  1. Beginners – this tutorial is incomplete – do not expect to tune your guitar to Open D fom this. The rest of the stuff is brilliant.

  2. step 1: grow your thumb nail insanely long. step 2: watch my video.

  3. No, it is indeed an open D tutorial. This demo video is comprised of multiple clips from the actual tutorial to demonstrate the tutorial content and presentation style. What you see is actually the incomplete segment on tuning to open D. The final two strings are indeed tuned to F# and A as you correctly point out.

  4. isn’t this tunning in drop D not "open" D open D has the g string as an F# and the b string is in A

  5. he’s talking about the harmonics i think

  6. Ah! I’m sure you are correct. I listened from a production standpoint, trying to detect an errant noise, not even considering the actual string harmonics, since he was playing them intentionally. Nice call!

  7. I think you mean harmonics, natural harmonics are done by lightly placing your finger (preferably your pinky) lightly over the 12th, 7th, and 5th fret…

  8. I took a listen and couldn’t hear a high pitch. Do you hear it every time you play the video?

  9. hey wats that high pitch on 0:15 and 0:16 ??

  10. Yes. This demo is a collection of partial clips from the full instructional video. So the tuning segment you are referring to is indeed a partial clip. The full segment does indeed carry the student all the way through the final "A" and "D" strings. The full video is available from Amazon or directly from Decent Hill Publishering.

  11. The video was cut during the tuning part. It’s actually D A D F# A D.

  12. his hair changed during the video ZOMG

  13. thanks from barcelona !!! great video !

  14. WooooWWW! This is what I have needed to invigorate the learning process…..God Bless, Larry.
