    It IS that easy. In a way.

    Of course it’ll take quite a while until you sound as good and elaborated, but it will sound like real blues in no time, and that’s what’s I think is most important. As a listener, I’d pick a sloppy impro over a technically perfect procession of standard licks any day. Also, I believe playing music is meant to be fun. So don’t be too critical of yourself, and don’t just practise for the end result. Practise for the pure sake of having fun playing guitar.

    I sometimes play open E (e-B-G#-E-B-E) and I hardly ever break strings… maybe I don’t play the exact same method of open E as you, or maybe I’m just lucky! Open G I can vouch for being fine on the strings too and I’ve never tried open D. The only other tuning I’ve tried was open A but I wasn’t in that particular tuning for long enough to see any damaging effects on the strings.
