  1. Hey Roy, the best slide tutorial on YouTube, great tips thanks for sharing. Noel from Co. Clare

  2. Power chords are EASY with open tuning, just tune to open E, and hold the slide across the fret, each fret is a different chord, work it out, Now lead slide is another matter entirely, forget it So, an open strum is E 1 2 1 2, 1, slide to fret 5 [one strum] ,then three[one strum each, back to open, then slide to 12th fret and ring out that harmonic while strumming any1 or two strings. The 7th is the last one you need, basic 12 bar!

  3. Mate, dont even bother until you have been playing normally for a good while. Learn the basics, you have no chance without knowing how to play normally…well:)

  4. When I have people round who can’t play guitar at all I give them an open tuned guitar and a slide and they can play chords in minutes. I learnt to play on a Ukelele and then a banjo. Oh and violin. I usually play in D an G for slide but I use DADGAD and a few others. I have been playing 35 years and I am still learning. The people I like, Bukka White, Leadbelly, Skip James and so on have a certain style. They dont overcomplicate things. I love those old guys.

  5. Its a real shame that people dont know where it came from. Its about the most famous sticker ever put on a guitar. Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly and all those guys are a real part of our folk and blues heritage.

  6. There are a few good vids out there that will teach the absolute basics of playing guitar . Slide guitar is something that challenges even those who have been playing for years , so its not a good spot to try to learn guitar . Standard tuning is EADGBE , this stuff is open G .

  7. Yo man, get a good grasp and ability of chords, and changing fast and clean, learn the lead runs in different keys, [lot of work, their endless], then start open tuning, then slide, which is almost always open tuned to G D A E, these are most common. And watch as much as you can, thats the key, it helps HEAPS, to watch, and note a good players hands at work:) [43 years:)]

  8. That was Woody Guthrie’s trademark from before Roy was probably even born.

  9. great video nice and simple very effective, can you show how to play power chords with the slide in open g tuning, thanks

  10. this video is for those players who are new to using a slide. you need to at least the learn the basics of how a guitar works before you can incorporate a slide into it. the slide warrants totally different techniques and tunings, while you need to look up absolute beginner lessons and grasp some basics first.

  11. This is for beginners? I don’t even know how to tune a guitar. Can we start with the absolute basics?

  12. Roy great stuff you make it look easy more more more please
