The Rolling Stones, “Honky Tonk Women” guitar lesson. Today we’re using the Catalinbread SFT to provide the round overdrive in this tune. The ’69 studio recording of Honky Tonk Women finds Keith Richards’ guitar part panned to one side, enabling you to follow along without interruptions. The key to many Stones tunes is the open G tuning, where one finger chords and bluesy licks jump out with ease. Keith also varies his timing and accents quite a bit, an example is the two variations of ‘G licks’ after the C chord. Isolating Keith’s parts also reveals a cleanish tone with a fat bottom end, which is why we chose the Ampeg voiced Catalinbread SFT, a great warm overdrive for both guitar and bass. Enjoy your daily guitar lesson.
