Alright, here is what Keef and Ron actually do! Now, I’m only gonna do this once on this Channel. It’s too much work. But, in the end it was worth it, as I learned how to combine two videos and their respective audio in to one. Start Me Up is perhaps the definitive song for these two exceptional Guitarists. And really, what you hear on this track is a Jam that has been turned in to a song. That’s why it’s so in-the-pocket-loose. “Cause they don’t care! Whatever happens, happens. These guys get to do this kind of thing over a Rhythm Section comprised of Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts. I’d say that the Rhythm Section in this band is all four of them. I love it.

These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs – sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that’s rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It’s worth it.

Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar:
This song is the centre of the Art of Rhythm Guitar. What I am interested in IS the art of it. And there is no higher, more accomplished level in Rock, than what Keef and Ronny weave here. In song after song, both live and in the studio, This is THE shit! Pushing and pulling the beat. Accidental unison playing that separates into different parts again. Riffs all over the place. And a couple of overdubs that I can’t work in to this. It’s all here. It’s all about capturing magic on tape. And it is the tidiest mess you will ever play!

If you are truly serious about the art of playing Rhythm Guitar, this just might be the BEST place to start.
