Can you explain what you mean by the Stones showing ‘what the future of rock n roll was about’ ? The Stones are great, but their music is blues based, arguably derivative; their music had nothing to do with modernity, experimentalism or was forward looking.

In my humble opinion, the Who are the best live band of all time, so they blow EVERYONE away.

We LOVE The Who, but c’mon… the Stones showed what the future of rock ‘n’ roll was about here.
Sorry, but there’s no comparison.

Not very friendly from Mick Jagger. When Mick and Keith have been convened by the justice on drug charges, The Who recorded a double-sider with "The Last Time" and "Under My Thumb" as a tribute and to show their support to The Stones.

I think I read in David Marsh’s "Before I Get Old" that at one time they were suppose to get an orchestra for the recording of this song, and at that one point in particular The Who recorded themselves singing "cello-cello-cello-cello" as a temporary fill, but Lambert was never able to hire the strings, and thus… had to even sing it ‘live’ as they do here.. lol

If I can give my opinion, among some others, one of the major strength of The Who comes from their vocal harmonies especially through the high-pitched voice of John Entwistle. You can hear the effect at the end of the movie clip (from 6:24). The voices of John, Roger and Pete agree perfectly on this song in each rhythmic variation which composed this piece.
