The Rolling Stones have a sound — you know that sound — and a big part of it is this particular guitar chord “trick” that Keith Richards does all the time. It’s in so many of their songs. The good news is, it’s fairly easy to do and you can learn to use it on any song to make it sound more interesting, and to make it a little more “Keith,” without even having to tune your guitar out of standard tuning. Keith often played open G tuning, but the trick works in standard too, so you can use it anywhere there’s a major chord.
This guitar lesson from Blue Morris in Vancouver will help you understand the guitar better, and connect chords to pentatonic scales whenever you see them.
