This is a song of mine from my album "The Sandhill Waltz" now available at Google Play. Im playing my Gibson J-30 guitar. This is one of the earliest songs I wrote – back when I lived back in Minneapolis. I added the second verse a few years later when I was living in Kansas City. Its played using an open G6 tuning I think it is. I recently learned that Cal Smith had a song called "Country Bumpkin" too back in the 70s. Dont know if I had heard it or not before I wrote this. Country Bumpkin Sittin in the corn She and I Watchin the geese Fly on by in the sky up above Together in love Oh shes my pumpkin And Im her country bumpkin Walkin below A blue harvest moon Down by the lake We heard a loon crooning a toon Above to the moon Oh yes shes pumpkin And Im her country bumpkin Will she still need me When Im far away Should any doubts about her Care to come my way Walkin along An old gravel road We found a toad And let it go in the road oh no The car squished the toad Oh but shes by pumpkin And Im her country bumpkin Chorus by Doug Newman (c) 1986 Sandthistle Music ASCAP
