This is a request from some of my new You Tube friends around the world. Ive communicated via email and You Tube with several players and music lovers out there. They asked if I would post something on electric. They know from looking at my home page that I am a Duane Allman nut. I saw Duane in August of 71 at the Boston Common while on vacation. I had never heard anyone play slide like him. I was sixteen and a very impressionable youth. His playing had an impact on me that I still feel today. There are other great slide players (Derrick Trucks, Warren Haynes etc.) that were influenced by Duane. But, there was only one Skydog. I played a progression into my Boss loop sampler. Next, I played licks in Duanes style (I hope) over the progression. The Firebird is in open E tuning. Its been a long time since I played this style. I thought up the progression while driving home from work. I hope you like it. Ive been playing mostly acoustic for the last couple of years. This is my first electric upload.

  1. Dam! You should get out your electric more often. Awesome tone, I’d love to here more.

  5. Sound really great, I dont usually listen to slide, but this was really entertaining.

  6. did duane use a whole finger length slide, or just a half one like you use in the vid?

  9. nice playin there, nice ideas, nice rythm, go on, rock the world budy..

  10. Nice playing. Slide adds another dimension to the guitar and sounds sweet.

  11. That’s great man, how long have you been playing? I’ve been playing slide for about a year now.

  12. Got a lot of that good ole Johnny Winter tone goin on there too. Sweet!

  13. I really enjoyed that- lovely phrasing. I play slide in standard tuning to avoid having to swap guitars live but open is best as you show.

  14. They are Gibson Super Humbuckers. I put them in when I was a teenager. I was trying to get a Les Paul sound from my Firebird. I wish I had left it original. It would be worth more as a vintage guitar. However, it does sound great.

  15. Are those full size humbuckers or minis? They sound great (and your playing too obviously!). Is that a maple neck tele I saw in the background too? I certainly hope so.
