Maybe its not because youre undisciplined, but because youve been practicing the wrong way. While there are benefits to strict practice, if you develop a negative association with playing the guitar, youll be fighting a battle in your mind before you even pick up the guitar. Sometimes you need to just get lost in the music, and remember why it is that you started playing in the first place.

  1. Wow…the best guitar lesson/advice I’ve ever heard. You really put things into perspective both technically and philosophically for me…and that’s what great instructors do. Thanks for doing what you do.

  2. Thanks so much! I have been playing for about 12 years and sound like its maybe 2! I related to so much of what you where saying. Awsome insight into the mental side of playing! …By the way i really got alot from your 10 things to not do video! you have great lessons…but these little talks you have are very appreciated as well! wish i could sit down face to face for lessons.

  3. just subscribed today. love your lessons and style . thanks for taking the time to share.

  4. I like that, great point…"express by getting lost in the music" … thanks.
That is essentially why the blues is the blues…emotional and unique self expression, your style. But easy to forget when bombarded with technicalities.
Love jammin with BB King type backing tracks.

  5. Hey man, great lessons just curious about something. When I listen to KWS or SRV I hear them use a lot of reverse raking, but in a different way. They will literally bash the hell out of the open strings before going for the note I want. What I want to know is, how come this works. After all they’re hitting a bunch of often out of key notes, yet it always sounds percusive and right. Gary Moore is a big user of this technique too i’ve noticed.

  6. Best youtube lesson I’v seen! Thank you so much!!

  7. This and many of your other "just talking videos" Hit me right where I need to be hit, and I agree alot. People get too caught up in trying to mimic the guitar and always comparing rather than just playing the guitar to play it. Which is why you find people like SRV, buddy etc. They were just playing for the love of it which lead to great things

  8. Great video! Thanks for putting these up, this really helped me see why I was in such a rut with my playing haha. Happy playing my man!

  9. So true! I really agree with you. That’s why I never played blues in any way because everyone does that. Even thought it sounds really great if you or some other good guitarist plays it it just bores me. It’s not my world but it suits you very well.

  10. its very usefull! this came to me at this pivitol point .. i was just about to become a driller… like literally this was perfect timing for me in my playing.
"when the student is ready the teacher will come"
    Thank you!

  11. The BEST advice I can give you.. The very BEST advice, is that there is no right guitar for a beginner, you’ll figure out what suits you once you get better. Just go grab anything cheap and start playing mate =)

  12. thanks a lot, can you suggest to me which pickup (lollar blackface, fralin ecc) is good to get a good srv tone? i don’ t like texas special pickup..

  13. I’ve played the Lollar Blackface pickups and they’re great. I have not tried the tonerider pickups though.

  14. HI! I vote for you!! Can i ask you an off topic question? What do you think about lollar blackface pickups and tonerider city limits pickups??

I’ m sorry for the OT, but i love your lesson and i subscribed your channel a long time ago.. your opinion is very important for me!

  15. you know why i like your channel? not because of the fact that you are one of the greatest teachers, but because you give very useful advises, which can be taken in every day life, and not just referring to guitars :3
