www.creativeguitarstudio.comAndrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio presents a guitar lesson in Fingerstyle Guitar… NOTE: Sorry for the errors during the video with all of the references to, "Drop D." The topic in the video is indeed supposed to be onabout the, "Open D Tuning." Q: I tried experimenting with Open D Tuning but had no real luck with it. I was lost on how to play the shapes of scales and I didnt have much success with making any chord shapes either. Can you do a video discussing an easy to use concept to help players get used to new tunings? I really enjoyed your recent video lessons on Working with New Scales — is there a similar process you could discuss that relates to the Open D Tuning, or any tuning for that matter? Really love your YouTube channel and weekly Blog. Thanks, from Kim — Winchester, Virginia A: Simplify new tunings by fully understanding the new neck layout. Begin by creating a Fingerboard Worksheet for yourself. Once the note layout is complete on a sheet of Guitar Fingerboard Worksheet Paper — organize the pattern layouts of a couple of scales, as well as, create a few chord shapes of common chords like; Majors, Minors or Dominant 7ths. This will help lead you to begin mapping out a progression in a particular key center. The complete lesson article for this video will be available on the Creative Guitar Studio website shortly. 5. Very good tutorial. For what its worth, I also like to get used to arpeggios (picking root notes, maj/min 3rds, 5ths, and maj/min 7th ..in a different tuning when going thru different chord shapes, esp helps me if playing fingerstyle in different tunings.

  10. Excellent video, Andrew!
Is there any way I can quickly find out which chord movements in which modes give away in which mode you are (like that Dm7 to G/D movement you talked about)?

  12. Hey All…

Kim’s Question was indeed regarding, "Open D Tuning."
All of the messed up references to, "Drop D,"
    are totally my fault!

I really gotta get more sleep or something!
Sorry All. Please accept my apologies on the mistakes!

    Thanks for Watching!
    – Andrew

  13. Hey Andrew, I think when Kim asked about "Drop D" tuning, she could have been simply speaking of "Dropped D" in the sense of DADGBE as the tuning! However, I really like your idea when approaching Open (D) tunings, great lesson!
