It is incorrect that playback speed of "Robert Johosons CD" is. This song was recorded at speeds of 74~5 rpm, not 78rpm. So this song is Key of A, not Bb (B), and he had played this song by National Reso-Phonic guitar (tri-cone?), not Gibson.

    Well obviously it does if you’re used to hearing the "original" version. To me the voice in this sounds much more natural. I think this probably is the way he sounded, could be wrong though.

    Interesting to hear it ‘slowed down’ or ‘de-acceceraled’ (?) but the fact is, it doesn’t change that much and I doubt if he was ever in ‘concert pitch’ (A above middle C = 440 Hz had only been Internationally recommended in 1939) unless he carried a tuning fork around, my guess is that he just tuned the guitar to itself but the master maybe got sped up a little. It’s still pretty awesome.

    I don’t believe this to be the correct speed.Listen to how the guitar sounds way too boomy and the strings sound slack and baggy like they would if it was slowed down.

    So if these are the original recordings then that means the sped up versions with their distinctive sound are responsible for rock n roll…basically rock n roll is an accident? a historical error…HA

    this may sound like a stupid thing to say, although this does sounds very natural, it also sounds like the voice of a much bigger guy then robert johnson, do you know what i mean buy that !

    The "true voice" of Robert Johnson is eternal !
    He was the best then, and he is a main contributor of what came afterward.
    70 years later, his songs are still going.
    Deal with the devil, or not, he is immortal !

    Also, I think its worth mentioning that after his woman died giving birth, Robert was known as a drifting musician who liked to drink whiskey. Most of the time he would play shuffle type songs that people could dance to in the juke joints, However, he was also reported to have played certain songs like "come on in my kitchen" with such feeling that by the end of the song,"everybody in the place was crying." This is the essence of R.J…… or so I’ve been told.

    I taught myself guitar listening to the RJ boxed set. I only heard about the "speed controversy" recently— but I am behind it. It’s obvious something is slightly sped up on the official recordings. It also explains the weird keys the songs are in, which have to be recreated by tuning up to open A and/or capo-ing. You’re going to break strings and have no room on the fretboard for what you have to do if you tune up to open A . Delta players dropped to open G as a rule, and this explains it.

    I’ve got a double LP on vinyl of Mr. Johnson, (and more)
    and without his talent, many rock/blues groups would not exist !
    GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT’S DUE !
    He was a genius, and still lives, immortal in the souls of TRUE bluesmen.
    His music will never die, only be re-invented by others who take the credit !

    If "happy birthday to you" was played like this it would sound weird too.
