  1. Now that I have the main lick down, I would love to get a video on the solo and other parts of the song. In the last few minutes you got into chords and scales, but I’d love to see a video devoted to that and maybe the solo. You the man Marty!

  2. also last time i checked David Gilmour is still alive, hes only one of the greatest guitarists ever but point taken

  3. stop trying to structure it, thats not how its done, you learn the moves and apply them where need be, not break down every note, your just gonna confuse yourself

  4. i can respect that comment however, stevie ray vaughn was a master, cause he wrote awsome music too, John may be a great guitarist, however his music writing skills are laughable, he’s contributed absolutely nothing to music, its the chicks that like him, probably because of some edward scissor hands fetish or somthing i dont know.

  5. there are not very much guitarists alive who are as good blues player as john mayer is. just saying.

  6. Finish this one, it is rude to start something and not finish it, yes.

  7. I use my thumb for the Low E pretty much permanently, and the odd time for the A, I have biggish hands, not shovels, but big enough to do that and be comfortable, I also play a strat that has a thicker neck than Stds, I have a SRV Signature, which has a thickish oval neck, & I have a CS 56 NOS, which has a boat neck, really thick neck on that, I had an early 90s SRV Signature, which had a super fat neck, that guitar was stolen from a friends van, Brazilian rosewood fret board as well,

  8. You can get pretty close using a Fender Strat on the neck pickups through a tube screamer and a tube amp

  9. Hi Marty,
I like your vid’s man, good website too! (subscribed to it a couple of days ago).
I’ve been tryin’ to tackle his (Mayer’s) Covered in Rain solo for a while now, can you take a look at it and see what you can do? It’s quite a long solo (as you may know) so it’ll be a long video trying to explain all of it, therefore i’m not asking for the entire solo. Any part helps.

    Thanks a lot

  10. sound much much better with a thumb on E string (hitting A note)

  11. Thanx Marty!!! I’m also jealous of your beautiful blue Strat

  12. i’ve read and seen that his rig is huge and complex. I’m far from positive but i think he uses and Ibanez ts-10, a marshall Blues breaker, and he’s got big dippers running through, his signature two rocks. Surely it’s more complex then that too i bet. I’d google "john mayer gear" check the youtube vids and websites that come up. I’ve read he changes stuff around a lot though. but i’ve hear perfectly good imitations by people on youtube playing on a lot cheaper equipment so it’s probably doable.
