  1. New drumheads are tight-ish. By tensioning them tighter than you normally would, you "stretch" the drumhead. Basically, when you hit your drumhead, it stretches, and detunes to a lower tension. Newer drumheads detune lower than "stretched" drumheads. It’s an ancient chinese secret that people like if they’re nitpicky about tuning and consistency. Buuuuuuut Aaron could easily blow my explanation out of the water.

  2. Do you, by any chance have a video of how your base drum sounds?

  3. could somebobdy please explain to me what he means by stretching out the heads?

  4. Hello, I was wondering if you could give me a few pointers. Currently I am using a 22" by 16" kick drum with a Remo Powersonic with a kevlar kick pad for the batter, and a Attack Medium thickness, single ply, self muffling head as the resonant with a 5" port hole. The drum produces a very dead and quiet sound even with no muffling. I am looking for more power and a thud, I am using Iron Cobra’s so I don’t think the the pedal is a problem. Perhaps the thick resonant? Any pointers? Thanks!

  5. i have too have mine pointing at a wall, kinda suck no matter how i tune it it will allways kinda kill some of the sound

  6. Thanks aaron so i should change the heads to get a more punchy low end sound? What about clear vs coated? What diffference in sound is there?

  7. The P3 has a lot more attack and less boom than the EMAD. Arguably of course, it’s all in how you tune it. I personally find with the EMAD the low is enhanced and it’s a little more warm and oomph sounding.

  8. The powersroke is coated and i have a folded blanket barely touching each head

  9. Nice! That’s what I like to see. Drum community is always so helpful. 🙂

  10. Hmm, strange, what size? If you want lots of low, a never fail combination is a clear EMAD and an Onyx reso, tune both as loose as you can without a growly sound. Then experiment with your muffling. 🙂
