Monty did care about HIS men When he pushed into Europe and linked with other Allied forces he was givin control over not only Brit units but US ones. Along with others from countries that havent entered this conversation, and he expended them uselessly. Perhaps Idiot is a strong statement. He was a capable leader but he isnt remembered fondly by some American vetrans. So…Im sorry for insulting him, but he did make huge errors as far as France was concerned. Perhaps he was 2 used 2 the desert.

The US did supply Britain for practically nothing eventually AFTER they wrung everything out of her. Britain exhausted all her gold reserves (which went to the US to pay for armanents) and traded many naval bases to the US before Lend Lease came into effect. Monty made some errors but I think being an ‘idiot’ is a bit of an overstatement. He was cautious as he hated getting large numbers of his soldiers killed – I’d like that in a General personally.

Gen. Monty won a few battles in the desert but when Allied force moved into Europe he just threw force around willy-nilly. Alot of American troops recall this. He was givin free reign because of his wins in the deserts, an they were good victories, but in France he clearly didnt know what he was doing. But you still havent answered my question, Why would a Brit harbour resentment toward America? Weve been allied for years. And u dont win everything. If you did, we wouldnt be discussing the US…

Difficult in answering the USA side of events as they reflect the schooling that denies that a world exists beyond USA. Monty won and pulled you out of the goo. Patton went in after all the work was done and took the glory. Monty is regarded as a winner. Winner as in wars we fought. We only lost in Afghanistan twice before you did. You are a big bumbling giant that does not take to war kindly, we love it! In fact we win everything when we fight on our own.
