Slide overdub to a very slow blues in E. Dropped D tuning, capo 2nd fret. This kind of improvisation is done by following the chord changes, not scales. Check out my bookDVD PlaneTalk to find out more about this other mindset. www.thatllteachyou.com

  1. I agree with luckyfamily man, no breathing room. Less is more. I’m learning tons, thanks, Kirk!

  2. PS Great Playing but try pauses or breaks..
    Kinda like a good speaker lets an audience
    catch up w him with a pause do they can absorb what he’s say’n 😉

    Again great play’n man

  3. Wow just discovered this treasure trove and will be back for more. Kirk – I learnt a lot from your instruction book years ago, basic stuff like using triads etc that the more formal books made to seem complicated. Sorry the reunion with Clapton didn’t work out, I’m such a fan of both you guys. Darling Harbour Jazz fest this weekend. Any chance you being there?

  4. Skavara 400 totally agree its really good but you become bored easily because there are no breaks or resolve a singer wouldn’t sing without a breath in between each line they sing. The only reason I’m saying because I’ve had similar experience very nice tho.

  5. Good stuff!

    But one thing… too many notes being played, so that the important notes that should stand out or be followed by a pause or even be sustained, are buried in amongst many superfluous notes. Your technique is deadly… the choice to overplay is giving in to the technical ability.

  6. The dude plays like the guy from Little Feat, very talented slide guy here.

  7. this stuck my face in a permanent squint it was so dirty /;}

  8. Great song, great playing. I’m just learning the slide. Do you just drop your low E to D in this song. Your Music blows me away. Nice job.

  9. Dam! Thats nice, makes me wont to stop playing(just kidding)I just have a lot more to learn

  10. Been on YT for a long time, but every once in a while you run across something like this… wow… unbelievable soul, tone, mastery of the blues guitar.

  11. really terrific playing man

  12. the fun thing to watch isnt the left hand…. its the right haha

  13. Hey I’ve got the same capo as you 😀
    I’m wondering why everyone puts it with its open end up on the gutar?
    I hope you understand what I mean 😉
