After a good listen to the many, many electric guitar sounds — both real and modeled — available on the new Line 6 James Tyler Variax, you may wonder what more this guitar could possibly have in store. The answer is: a whole lot more. Specifically, this 2nd generation Variax offers a wide selection of acoustic string instruments, including six- and twelve-string guitars, banjos, dobros, resonators and more. As with the electric models, the acoustic models can be instantly detuned or re-tuned to any alternate tuning, And theres a pretty neat function on board the James Tyler Variax called the "capo" function which makes creating your own alternate open tunings a powerfully simple process. Everything youre hearing for this part of the demo, by the way, was recorded direct into Logic through and RME Fireface 800. As you can hear, theres nary a piezo quack to be found; every patch just sounds like a micd acoustic instrument.

  1. @fsmagwj yeah. before I started eating right it didn’t matter how much I exercised my abs were still jello. And Do you know about the 7 odd foods that kill belly fat if you don’t know about them you must see this. i found it here ==> bit.ly/TOYnDz?=hyemzm

  2. You can tune anything. When making a tuning, You use the 12th string as a nut then play each string according to how many half-steps up or down you want that string to be from it’s actual physical tuning.

  3. Hi, can you program any tuning? Eg EbBbEbEbBbEb or DADFAD or EEEG#BE?
    Thanks

  4. That is freaking amazing! How much does that puppy cost? Is it from Line 6?

  5. It has piezo pickups for each string, so the computer chip can pitch shift each string individually.

  6. Yes, you can get the Rain Song tuning, even on the 12 string model. I’ve had a 500, 600 and now the JTV. It is NOT a gimmick. I’ve recorded plenty with each and had plenty of stage use. You CAN palm; you just have to shift your hand off the bridge some. The JTV is a phenomenal guitar. The prior Variaxes were mediocre guitars with awesome electronics. It has opened my guitar field wide open; learning Keith open G nuances, learning slide guitar, Suite Judy Blue Eyes and on and on…

  7. One problem: my dad has the Bedford Banjo Shop, and that model doesn’t sound like a banjo haha. But that’s okay, it can do everything else!

  8. i can only find korea manufactured models in Turkiye. Are there any major differences?

  9. I am a Mac guy can you use all the editing software for these on a mac computer? ALSO can you set it up so when you change a patch on HD500 it also changes your guitar model and tuning set up all together???

  10. Well he IS right about the palm muting to some extent but I can barely stand to do small format gigs without my Variax if for only the acoustic and the 12 string. I was flying to Dallas for a big show last week and had secured 2 sweet Strats in Dallas, last minute I said I’m getting my Variax on that plane … and I did in a bag into the overhead . Glad I did . The Strat & Paul and Jazz box are very good & the Tele emu is to die for & Ricko is killer as well. 2 guitars to carry & tune (a spare)

  11. Yeah I get that what you mean they feel different but I consider it an advantage to have all string always feel the same and respond to bends the same . There is however the "disconnect" of a slight extra time delay on pitch shifted strings. Having real pickups is nice but I liked the clean look of 300s and 600s.

  12. If a band was playing live where they couldn’t practically mic an acoustic, I’d much rather hear the acoustic sounds from a variax than that rubber band fart sound you get from a real acoustic with a piezo.

  13. The inherent problem with modeled alternate tuning (not just on this guitar, but on every modeled alternate tuning) is that there’s a disconnect with the tactile feedback coming from your fingers and the body of the guitar that lets you feel the standard tuning. In addition, unless you have the modeled tuning set anywhere from medium to fairly high, you’ll hear the acoustic sound of the standard tuning.

It’s an odd disconnect. Again, not just on this guitar, but on any system.

  14. The variax guitar is a gimmick. Cant palm mute with one of these. Dont waste your money. Go to harmony central and check out the user reveiws for the variax.
