www.facebook.com Cover of "Doom and Gloom" by the Rolling Stones. Toms version of the new Rolling Stones single, with his trusty 1976 Telecaster in open-D tuning. Open-D tuning is DADF#AD, and for "Doom and Gloom" it gives you a much more fluid attack. You can play it in open-G, but its much more difficult to get that unmistakable Keef fluidity. And when you play the Stones, its got to be both loose and punchy. Tom Hauck is a former guitar player and songwriter for Bostons powerpop titans the Atlantics (1976 – 1982) and Ball and Pivot (1983 – 1988). Hear and purchase Toms tracks on iTunes today.

  1. Sounds cool! youre singing is a very nice try! love your guitar sound!

  2. You can play this song in open D, open G, and even in standard tuning.

  3. Hi Didoudenices:

Basically, start with open D tuning: DADF#AD. That gives you the main D chord. The verse riff is based on the minor third of D, which is an F chord. Play the three middle strings (DF#A) at the third fret (the notes are FAC), then hit the single note (C) on the third string at the third fret (you’ve already played this note once, as part of the F#AC triad). The accent chord at the end of the phrase is the fourth of the scale – a G chord, played at the fifth fret.

  4. Hi Martin – It’s a very easy song to play, and it’s an easy song to sing. Because of the syncopations in the verse it’s a bit of a challenge to sing and play at the same time! 🙂

  5. Hi Tom! Seems like you and me are the only ones who have done a cover of this song so far.. 🙂 Keep it up!
