www.learningguitarnow.com Learn how to play some slide guitar licks in the style of Warren Haynes from the Allman Brothers Band in this guitar lessons vidwo.
Watch what he’s doing with this thumb when he begins a phrase. He’s strumming his thumb down while the strings are muted and at the same time uses his fingertips to pluck the notes. Using his thumb is what gives that low, chunky thwump that gives the notes that he hits so much more body and punch. Derek Trucks does this all the damn time. Sounds so good.

Do you play that guitar for slide primarily? Is it set with higher action? I’ve heard people say to just leave your guitar as is and learn to play it with low action. Just seems easier to play it higher to me.

I’d love to get one of those "mudslide" type slides your talking about. They look awesome! not too sure about how they sound though.

You’re right, it is pyrex. When you said ceramic I was thinking of the material of a "mudslide" type slide. Pyrex is a ceramic. Still makes a great sound, and is a close as you can get to the original coricidan bottle.

I coulda sworn it was pyrex. Thats waht mine is anyways.

You can get them at your local guitar store, usually. I’m not sure what type he uses, but if your lucky enough to find an original coricidan bottle slide, that would work great. Dunlop makes a reproduction, but it’s ceramic. Still good, though.

Great video. i try to watch all of your stuff it has really advanced my play to the next level! thanks for that. but I have one question. I have gotten the smoothness down really well and the licks really well. But i only play slide in standard tuning and i find it hard to make my own phrases. In standard tuning are you limited in your slide playing than in open E? Thanks for your vids again! keep rocking!
