A song played in open D to illustrate the major chord in one "form". Thank goodness the song is still true.

  1. It depends on where you are coming from. In some countries and other locations, Do is indeed C. This is called "fixed" Do. In other locations, such as most of the US and some parts of Europe, Do is the first note sounded in the Ionian scale, no matter what note that scale begins on. So, for me, the D in the scale of D is its Do. Hope that is not confusing. Cheer and thanks for the good question.

  5. Always come back to this. My favourite of yours. Do I detect a hint of Dylan in there ?

  13. The D is played open, but sometimes melody notes are played on single strings that might be fretted at the same time, for example the fifth fret on the 1st string, and then the sixth fret on the same string. Return to the fifth fret and then slide down and play the whole chord open, so that the 2nd string sound a melody note. Then slide the whole chord up to the fourth fret, etc. Play around with it, and you will hear how it works. Cheers.
