In open E: EBEG#BE……A lot of people are saying this is in open E rather than standard tuning, but nobody ever seems to post an open E version. So I went ahead and recorded one. You can decide for yourself which tuning you prefer!

  1. In a tab book? Well, that definitely settles it.

  2. Hey, in my original Tab book "Let it bleed" is this guitar part in open G tuning. I think in the 70s they just played the song in standart tuning. 😉

  3. Good stuff ! The track is open E…keith mentions in his book

  4. Bud you rock man I love the Stones and loads of others and your playing has helped me big time having lost my index and middle finger. One fine one day I decided to become a lefty and there have been stages where just wasn’t going any where. Things change and more lights come on and more and you have made think and progress more
THANKS AGAIN LOVE YOUR PLAYING AND GUITARS WHICH I COLLECT LIKE MADE
    ROCK ON

  5. i think this version is easier than the one in standard tuning
thank you so much PT 😀

  6. You’re a little off on some parts. If anybody cares, I will be posting a video soon of me playing this and walking through how to do it. Both rhythm and lead guitar. and I know I’m right cuz I f***ing paid for the tabs. but yeah, I hope to have it up by tomorrow

  7. have u heard the altamont bootleg? i personaly really like it

  8. i always used to play this in open G but somewhere in my head i knew it was wrong…and btw…how do you have sooo many guitars?!

  9. I was just wondering the same thing, when I came across this question…….are you happy to shed any light?

Love your renditions and lessons…..the whole channel really.

  10. Me, too. But you can’t play the guitar solo correctly in open E, so I kind of had to do the other version.

  11. Personally I prefer this version of Gimme Shelter to your other one

  12. I can tell what priv is playing and I think what you are suggesting is a terrible idea

  13. you have many fine instruments my man, if it’s not too out of line…what do you do for a living?

  14. I remember reading somewhere that this song has SEVEN guitar parts. For me this song is the pinnacle of Keith’s genius in the studio. Maybe you could whip out the paisley tele and put up that scary high lead part some day! – thanks

  15. I agree with you about the live versions of this song that they did, they don’t come close to the Studio version at all. Thought I was the only one who agreed on that. Great video as well as your others. I subbed.

  16. You can check out live versions, which I’m pretty sure Keith did in open G. Personally, I hate the live versions of this song. But that’s just me.

  17. Great thanks for posting another interesting video. I’m trying to find a good one in open G as well. Personally I prefer the sound of open E as I find it darker and more bluesy than open G. I’ve noticed that Keef likes to move from major to minor notes and chords. Here he moves from C# major to C# minor in the intro and verse (eg from C# to B and A. F# is in both major and minor scales). He does this alot in songs, during verses or choruses. Key to the stones sound I reckon. Best wishes.

  18. Well done!! Very nice!!! I SUBEED!!!! sub back if you want 😉
Greetings from Spain;) Comment my video:)

  19. Great job. It is in "E " and that comes from the man himself. Keiths song all the way! I even have a version of him on the vocal and it is amazing. I say play it the waty is was recorded. Buy a guitar for specific tunings. I have 6 and they are all in different tunigs. My guitars aren’t as nice as yours! Hope you have insurance on those beauties! How about "Kind hearted woman" By George Thoroughgood? He does the best version of that song I have ever heard. I play it in open "G" Think I a wrong?

  20. For what its worth Rolling Stones Fake Book indicates standard tuning.
I love the Open E version but it necessitates a few guitars on stage thats for sure!
