Generally uplifting each other and appreciating what each other’s talents are. Not going around saying, "this guy sucks" etc. The Youtube community is not representative at all of the "real world" of guitarists. Its a bunch of people criticizing other people who are generally more accomplished than them. Not in every case but much more negative than I ever experience out on the road. That is my opinion. It’s hard not to notice the negativity especially in the guitarist community on Youtube.
Yeah I hear you. I would just like to say that I’ve been playing full time for the last 10 years. Most recently with a band called GB Leighton. We have sold close to 100k albums. We have 11 albums on iTunes and we are unsigned. The reason I’m saying this is we have played shows with tons of bands, Big Head Todd, Smashmouth, multiple bands in the Americana genre, point being the guitar community is not a bunch of Aholes ripping on each other. I agree with your sentiment, and God knows i’m sick of it myself, but the advice you give (don’t watch his videos if you don’t like him etc) can also be applied to yourself in the form of ‘if you hate the idiotic comments, don’t scroll down & look at them’, and it won’t require censorship and everyone can employ the ‘out of sight – out of mind’ philosophy in regards to such idiocy. Well said!………….I think this kind of person just rides on the coat tails of an incredible talent of people like Joe. I really don’t understand why they can’t just appreciate the music, when I found Joe I was just pissed that I had not found him sooner…….again Well said…..someone had to!!!.
