  1. Actually this is Eli Green, McDowells neighbour who had a track on the album. Love the laughter in the end

  2. it isnt stealing son. most of these songs no one knows the real author. many times the guys that played it the most, or the earliest gets his name attached to it.

  3. check out the mason symbol on his grave stone. anybody question that?

  4. Ok this dates from the 1920s so he is part of the roots of popular music a brilliant unique style

  5. is this the version with Eli Green on Roots of the Blues Album?

  6. les zeppelin n the stones both covered blues songs… same with the white stripes and everyone else so its not like stealing, if you look at some musical history you will notice that lots of artist cover there favorites, before creating there own masterpieces… zeppelin did all there covers in an original way in which the couldnt do in the early times…the rolling stones sucks

  7. Mississippi Fred McDowell was not technically a delta bluesman but a Mississippi hill country bluesman along with musicians like Junior Kimborough and RL Burnside.

  8. 40 years ago today the world lost a great musician. Long live Fred

  9. Strachwitz confessed afterwards he wasn’t able to record more music by Eli Green because the recorder battery run out. But these two songs is quite enough to realize the real greatness of the Delta bluesman.

  10. This is Eli Green, an old Mississippi blues musician and Fred McDowell’s teacher, who’s singing and playing on the recording. He was recorded in Como by Chris Strachwitz by real chance. Fred McDowell was present during the recording: they’re laughing together in the end. Eli’s second of the two existing songs is "Brooks Run Into The Ocean".

  11. That is NOT Fred McDowell singing. Sounds like him on the guitar tho’. Please credit the singer.

  12. What is your definition of ‘uncultured Americans’ ..hahaha, that is exactly where the Blues came from. It came from where there were NO silly guides and even more silly people trying to put into a box what never belonged in a box…

  13. Rolling Stones didn`t steal any blues :). They covered blues songs ! Stones are hooked to the blues 🙂 The name of the band comes from a song title by Muddy . They had such admiration for the blues that they traveled in Chicago to meet Muddy Waters @ Chess Records and they did a session there too 🙂 Because they tought blues is great they invited Muddy and Willie Dixon to Europe and they payed all expense for that first European tour.
Led Zeppelin was stealing not Stones 🙂
