HarpoJon learned mainly from James Cotton and sat in with John Lee Hooker when he was 16 years old. HarpoJon somehow got in many Muddy Waters shows ( even though 16 or 17 ) usually with Jerry Portnoy on Harp. HarpoJon would often see Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee as well as John Mayall. Dozens of other Harp Players inspired him eg Harpo Slim, Paul Butterfield, Junior Wells, Litttle Walter, Big Walter Horton,Carey Bell, Both John Lee and Rice Miller "Sonny Boy Williamsons", Billy Branch, Steve Cash, Sugar Blue, DeFord Bailey, Toots Thielemans, Larry Adler, Buddy Greene, John Lennon, Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson, Howlin Wolf, George "Harmonica" Smith, Harmonicats, Rod Piazza, Pat Ramsey, Stevie Wonder, Paul Delay, Adam Gussow, Magic Dick, John Popper, Jason Ricci, James Montgomery, Bob Corritore. Carlos Del Junco may be HarpoJons new favorite. Woman harp players have inspired as well..ie Big Mama Thornton, Annie Raines, Cheryl Arena, Christelle Berthon, and Big Nancy.
