I took the first four verses of Wallace Stevens poem, "The Man with the Blue Guitar", and set it to music played on acoustic slide guitar, harmonica, kitchen chopping board, wooden spoon and barley in a plastic box. I didnt think I liked poetry very much until Robin introduced me to Wallace Stevens. "The Man with the Blue Guitar" really grabbed me. I then found the connection to the Picasso painting, which inspired him. You can read about this at www.pablopicasso.org There are loads of articles offering analysis of the poem and the painting. The Picasso painting in hi res and the full copy of Wallace Stevens poem (33 verses in total) can be found all over the web. The original painting is in Chicago, but there are loads of high-quality prints for sale, just look on Google shopping. I found the poem in "Wallace Stevens: Collected Poems" published by Faber and Faber, which I recommend. I played a Tanglewood electroacoustic guitar tuned to open d and played in the key of g, and used a Boss RC3 looper, Vox DA5 amp, Hohner harmonica in C played as cross harp in G, Blue Snowball mic, and Audacity to multitrack. Winter slippers were still worn as it was a bit chilly along with a thick jumper.
