A classic Rolling Stones song which featured on the band’s 1971 album Sticky Fingers. Another fine collaboration between Keith Richard’s guitar riffs and Mick Jagger’s lyrics. The song was recorded in 1969 at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama. There is a conspiracy and mythology behind the origins of the song with some believing that Gram Parsons was involved in its construction. The song certainly has a country melancholy to it. Moreover, the melodic and full sound of the open G tuning adds a lot of depth to the track with the prevalence of major and minor chords and the notes of Keith Richard’s guitar droning in different octaves. Wild Horses typifies the Stones sound in the early 70s.
