  1. Try tuning to one of Blind Willie Johnsons favorites: cgcgce then capo to the third fret. I use this one very often. Gets you that deep drone. Peace

  2. He gets into my very sould when he plays and he mkes it look so easy. Beyond words, let the music speak to you

  3. Martin is an amazing musician. He plays guitar very soulfully and
    sings the same way.
He also plays with June Tabor doing vocals. If you haven’t heard these,
they are well worth listening to.

  4. theyre nifty little things. like a little feedback machine. Never seen anyone use a slide with one before. yet another way Martin Simpson makes me want to give up [or practise more]

  5. this is a master musician doing the work that needs to be done, in my opinion.

  6. He mentioned playing in an open G tuning in an early video. I hope that helps

  7. That device is called an EBow. When held over a plucked string, it sustains the string’s vibration using a magnetic field. Martin explains it in the next video in this series "Martin Simpson – Concert Conversations Part 1" at about the 2:47 mark. You can also learn more at EBow.com.

  8. I`ve bought many Martin Simpson albums and they are all brilliant. This performance is extraordinary. Thanks to museum of making music for this and the other wonderful clips.

  9. awesome… just when I think I’ve seen it all

did this guy do the theme for the ‘Firefly’ TV series by any chance? Sure sounds like it.

  10. Dear Martin, yuz one of my greatest inspirations as i twang my strings every day, how ya got there (wherever you are inside when you play) you amaze, amuse and stagger me, but sniffing around I’m unable to suss out what Tuning you play this in, despite the Capo on the 3rd! Pllez enlighten do. Then I can spend the next 4 years trying to play it like you before being IMPERTINENT enough to do so in front of others, lol

  11. LOVE this! That guitar is an alive thing, a creature all of its own that he teases sweet soulful sounds out of. Lovely, lovely, lovely!

  12. man this is heavy….definately out there, one of the most moving performances of any song.

  13. I guess you heard about the drummer who got locked in his car. Took him half an hour to get out.
