  1. my brother has met him and said the exact same thing, and very enthusiastic and encouraging

  2. I have seen/heard Martin many times and spoken to him on several occasions and arrogance definitely never raised its head …he is and always has been one of natures true gentlemen perhaps the previous poster caught him on a particularly bad day ….I come from the same general area as Martin originated and saw him almost weekly play around local venues and he is one of the most humble guys around for one with such an abundance of talent

  3. Funny that because I’ve met Martin numerous times and he was nothing but polite and encouraging to all I saw him speak to?

  4. Have to agree that manners come gratis and the elite should lead by example 😉

  5. I hear what you’re saying – he is a tremendous player . I don’t however agree that any amount of talent gives one the right to treat people with the arrogant disrespect I have personally witnessed from Mr Simpson. Others of equal and greater talent still manage to remember that the rest of the world is composed of ordinary mortals. Manners cost nowt.

  6. I heard this chap on radio 3 today and I must say, he sounded a bit big headed but I think that when anyone can play an instrument with such fluency and ease, then maybe they have a right to a huge cranium 🙂

  7. I come back to listen to this every once in a while, thanks Martin for such a great piece of music to come back to.

  8. Looking forwards to seeing you at the Chesterfield folk Club in April 2012

  9. Martin Simpson is playing at the Bishopsgate Institute on Friday 23 September w/ Alasdair Roberts and Jonny Kearney & Lucy Farrell. £15. For info and bookings call 020 7254 4097.

  10. I haven’t smoked in almost 30 yrs – and I can tell you friend, Simpson does it without any additional help. Simply beautiful and genuine. (It’s not on youtube as far as I can tell , but also listen to A Love Letter from his ’07 CD PRODIGAL SON)

  11. This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed. I’m only 16 and I wish that everyone was aware of this genius man.

  12. i love music, been around it all my love, but his playing really moves me….

  13. If this song doesn’t make you cry, then you have no heart. When I listen to this song, I think of the day when I will loose my mother. She is 83 and has health problems. Very powerful and emotional piece. I believe Martin feels it every time he plays this song.

  14. Whenever I feel like a little weep, i listen to this, does it every time. Very cathartic, so beautiful, would like to thank the Museum for immortalising these pieces and posting them for us all to share

  15. Totally different styles, neither person could do the other’s style justice

  16. martin is a true entleman, i have met him many many times. There are plenty of argumentative people watching other kinds of music for you to go and wind up with your lies.
