  1. PS: I also thought it fair to mention that – as hard as I try? When I attempt to SING Bob’s lyrics in HIS STYLE… WHILE I’m playing his songs? MY voice is fried by the time I get to, "Honeymoon Blues." That is on a GOOD day…

  2. The secret is in learning RJ’s tunings and practicing his songs over and over until yer calluses need superglue to keep the blood from dripping on yer axe. Then you can get close. Yet, as you say; NOBODY can quite match Robert Johnson!!! But I keep trying. Not for fame or glory; just because it FEELS so damn GOOOOOOOD!!!

  3. To be fair, Just because clapton is a good electric lead player, doesnt mean because he cant play this style nobody can.

  4. Clapton did play this song through probably better than anyone else. He did also say he couldn’t play it perfect. That’s quite a bit coming from the likes of Clapton.

  5. The Stones directly listen to Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Son house as did the beatles, fleetwood mac, john mayall and the blues breakers and after that, Cream, Led Zep, Deep Purple and the list goes on and on. Dont take any crap from Thrawn6211!!!

  6. Doing it is one thing. Doing it as well as Johnson is another. I’m a lame guitarist compared to even a professional guitarist so I’m not an authority. But I have heard Clapton say that he’s never seen anyone do precisely what Johnson was able to do. But guitar playing is too complex to make absolute statements about. Many people feel Django Reinhardt is the king of them all.

  7. You are correct. Clapton even said himself. He said, "It would take me a lifetime just to be able to approximate Robert’s playing."

  8. Though what you say is true, Johnson and other delta blues musicians like him pioneered the blues as we know it, therefore pioneering music as we know it. Bob Dylan grew up listening to Johnson. The Stones grew up listening to Dylan, therefore listening to Johnson as well. These modern guitarists may be technically skilled, but the impact they have made/are making on music today is nowhere near that of Robert Johnson. To disagree with me on this point would be insane so please don’t bother

  9. Yes! Thank you Haydon, Buddy Guy is still beating out the heart of Chicago Blues right now. Of course, I was being pretty unfair in what I said, too, but racism makes me mad.

  10. What really makes this cracker mad is the fact that black men don’t make music like this anymore . . . Almost all the black artists I like are dead, with the exception of B.B. King.

  11. It would have made a great episode of Twilight Zone, but Johnson didn’t meet "satan." He had very long fingers and I’m sure he had tricks he used. They weren’t "magic" tricks. Think of a guy who’s car breaks down in the desert , and puts a piece of gum on the carburetor . Inventive thinking. I love the music, but you guys are in total awe. Remember, around certain musicians he turned his back when he played. Like a pitcher hiding the grip behind his back. Robert Johnson was not supernatural.

  12. Yup Johnson is impossible to play as a single man, to be totally honest. That’s why they say he made a deal with the devil.

  13. has the same music as Terraplane Blues!

  14. I have a bird to whistle

and I have a bird to sing

    Have a bird to whistle

and I have a bird to sing

    I got a woman that I’m lovin’

boy, she don’t mean a thing

  15. I have a bird to whistle

and I have a bird to sing

    Have a bird to whistle

and I have a bird to sing

    I got a woman that I’m lovin’

boy, she don’t mean a thing

  16. This is great playing. But there are plenty of guitarists out there who can play like this. Especially folk guitarists like Davey Graham and Bert Jansch. Just listen to ‘Angi’

  17. OK then lets see you do it mate, i dare say you’d give up before the second bar. I’ve been playing for 50yrs now, and still this form of Johnson’s playing is some of the most complex around today.

  18. The most influential guitarist and blues musician of all time. Period.

  19. Ever heard of Johnny Winter..lol no disrespect..I truly think he captured Robert Johnson quite well! But with his own stamp respectfully..songs like Dallas, Bladie Mae,as well as Robert Johnson standards When you got a good friend,Stones in my pathway etc.without Johnny I might never have Found Robert or the blues and I’m sure it’s visa versa for many.. I LOVE ROBERT JOHNSON!
