  1. Your video is a revelation – many thanks, and well done. It’s going to help a lot of players.

  2. It can be quite a revelation to those who have never tried it before! I think Keith has said it sounds like "a goddamn orchestra." I’m glad I could introduce you!

  3. just tuned open G tonight. holy crap! what a difference. thanks!

  4. Thanks for the kind words! I do these so people who are casual players like myself can have things explained to them in laymen’s terms… ’cause I sure as heck ain’t gonna explain it like a pro… I’m glad people are enjoying them! Check out my other full song (and ELECTRIFIED) videos!

  5. Useful and entertaining video. Thanks, jmv1701!

  6. Yes, Keith does usually remove the low-E string, however he has much more money than I do, and who can afford to replace the string every time you remove it? Hahaha… I also play in standard so I’ve kinda developed a style of muting the low E as I play in open G. And I am not that good, haha… See my other videos where I play an electric to Brown Sugar and Happy!

  7. me too. just finished the book (quite excellent, sorry Mick!), and this video does a great job of showing some of what Keith was talking about…except…he removes the low E string…no? Thanks for great video man…and your playing sounds good, which is all that matters….you’re a helluva lot better than me.

  10. Same here. Just what I was looking for. Thanks jmv. And, I love that you describe it as "magic."

Keith, in Life, tells us that he uses 5-string Open G tuning. leaving the lowest string off the guitars entirely!

(By the way, I don’t know about Philly, but in the rest of the English-speaking world it’s CAY-po. Not CAP-o. )

  11. I give you kudos for playing it on acoustic ……harder to cover mistakes but it brings out the differential voicing (in open g) dramatically

  12. Thanks for the lesson, it helped me a lot .Looking forward to more videos, keep up thr good work.

  13. I appreciate the kind words! Working on videos for some of the more obscure Stones songs like ‘Ventilator Blues’ and such; there’re a million vids out there for the hits. Check back soon!

  14. In Keith’s book, "LIfe", he talks about the open G often. I clicked on your video for some reference & it was just what I was looking for. Thank you!

  15. Great Video jason and your Uncle loved it. He is so excited that you did it. He is looking forward to more.

  16. Nice video, thanks for putting it out there. This is like how I sound. Gimme Shelter is also my favourite.
Not sure about the Phillies propaganda, though.

  17. good video dude… I learned alot! This is why i say we need to play together… if not for you, for me!
